There are lots of types of spring straps. The Apollos are very nice, but unless you have them pre-installed at the factory on a pair of bio-fins, I don't think they're worth the premium. What kind of fins do you have that makes you think you need the Apollos? |
I have the twin jets. and I heard they don't take the EZ straps or the tilos ones. I guess I'll probably get the XS scuba universal straps since I did hear the Apollo straps were hard to install unless they already come pre-installed, is that what you mean? |
No, I mean the Apollo's are really expensive. Although it's true that they're harder to install, as well.
Plenty of companies make spring straps that will work with the twin jets, including the EZ Spring Straps. I use the version designed for Jet Fins. (No plastic buckles on those)
Personally, I think the hype and concern over plastic buckles is a little overblown. Is eliminating them safer? Yes. But how often do the buckles break? Since you're usually replacing plastic buckles, the way I see it, you're no worse off than you were with the OEM buckles. And now you have spring straps that are both incredibly easy to doff/don, and the strap portion is far more break-resistant than the original rubber strap, so you're still ahead of the game. Non plastic buckles will be safer still, yes, but for most recreational divers not heading into tech (and you wouldn't be using twin jets in tech, you'd be using jets, which don't use the plastic buckle version anyway), I think they are a big improvement over the original buckles.
