I was hooked by a fisherman last year. I was near the end of a 70' dive on the jetties in St. Andrews SP, Panama City, Florida.
Luckily, the leader and hook snagged my glove, not hand, before coming loose. It slid up the line to my dive flag, hooking it near the surface.
I pulled my knife out, but not to cut the line. First I banged my tank trying to get my son's attention as I got pulled away. Then I diverted my focus upwards. I was preparing to have a little come-to-jesus meeting with the guy who cast at my dive flag. Then the thing came loose when I was at about 30', trying to slowly ascend while fighting the line. I think he pulled my flag in and unhooked it. I gave up and headed down.
My 14yr. old son and my brother were my "buddies" that day. Neither of them saw me dragged off, as they were posing for goofy photos with each other. You should have seen the quizzical look I got when I swam back waving my knife at them and shouting underwater.
Daddy was angry. My son got an earful later.
