On a cruise, I've carried m/f/s in a
snorkle bag and rented gear, because I didn't own my own. My next cruise I'm taking it all, but I'll most likely drive to the port unless I find a really good airfare ATL-FLL x 4.
I've heard carry a dive knife on a cruise can be a real hassle because every time you board the ship you have to turn it in and then you get delayed when leaving the ship while they retrieve it for you. With limited time at most ports, it can be frustrating waiting a half an hour for a knife. I just take shears.
