Sounds like things are getting back to normal. We were down there last December and told that they lost a lot of their eels due to a disease that went through (something about some illegal sewer discharge, but that has been corrected).
We dove a lot off Bari Reef and there are huge tarpin (especially at night) that swim with you. We ate at Don's and they do feed the tarpin with all their scraps.
Sounds fun, can't wait to get back.
