I have an old style and the weight release system is great (not vlecro). It has quick release style clips that are positioned in the back of the sleeve that the weight pouch goes in. The new one has a very similar system that is positioned in the front of the sleeve, makes it much easier to secure when replaced while wearing the BC.
Other differences that I notice on the new model is some color changes with a more noticeable AVID emblem and the snorkel pocket is slanted to allow easier access than the old style that is straight up.
