Vegas Pro not really good for HD
Vegas is great software, but, to use it for HD editing is somewhat self-defeating. If when you record with an HD camera, you probably do so at a resolution of 1080i. Likewise, I'm sure that you would like to look at your video on an HDTV with 1080i. If you create a DVD with Vegas (and many other similar video editing programs) the best DVD that you can create is a standard DVD with an output/resolution of 720i !
The only software that I know of (within reason and less than $1k), is Premier CS3. It will allow you to print your 1080i work on to a Blu-Ray disk, and likewise will allow you to view it in true 1080i. If you print your edited HD video work on anything less than a Blu-ray disk, (or HD-DVD), you're not going to see the total quality that you originally recorded.
Getting into HD video requires a LOT...It requires an HD camera, a HIGH quality computer, software capable not only of processing HD, but also capable of printing on to Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD) disks, a Blu-Ray recorder, a Blu-Ray player, and a 1080i/p HD monitor or TV. If you can't afford all that, my suggestion is that you stay with a good quality Digital video camera that can record in 'wide' (16X9) format. You can then edit your video with lots of inexpensive software and print your work on a standard DVD and watch it on a wide-screen TV at a resolution of 720i; the resolution that the video was originally made at.
