I want to carry everything on. The only problem I've had with gear not being safe is the airlines losing my bag, or things being stolen from checkin luggage. I'm taking a trip later this year connecting through Miami, and that airport is notorious for gear being stolen so I don't want to let it out of my hands. |
The only thing I really could not get in my carryon would be fins & I have seen some folks actually carry those on or pop them on the side of a carry on.
I don't put any gear that I consider "life-saving" or personal in my checked luggage. My reg, masks, and bc are with me at all times when travelling. Renting fins, wetsuit & booties is OK with me & I have had to do it before. If they are hard up enough to steal my $30 ebay shorty they are more than welcome to it.
