From talking with Tech Divers and reading a lot I think it varies quite a bit. It seems to all be in the planning. Support divers aren't new per se but they are sometimes present. I have read the book you are talking about and I can say for sure that Tech diving has come a LONG way in the few short years since the death of the Rouses.
