If you don't own a DPV yourself and practice with it regularly it may help with the basics and to shorten the learning curve. A some shops will not rent a DPV to a diver that does not hold a basic DPV cert.. The course covers the basics and has several practice skill dives. I would think it is a good course from a knowledeble instructor and would be worth the time and money for a beginner.
