Dive knife - opinions wanted

Hello guys,

After reading all the posts about knives here, I came to realize I will need a serious size knife, capable of fighting off at least 2 great whites at the same time. :-)

Now seriously, I am a begginer diver, just starting to assemble all of my equipment, and I don't have a knife yet. I am looking at BCattachable one and the cool big ones dont seem to be the way to go :-). I got a $50 gift certificate to amazon.com (otherwise I would have purchased one on this site), and am looking at these ones. I was wondering if you have any tips/comments about:

UK FUSILIER HYDRALLOY KNIFE
Amazon.com: UK FUSILIER HYDRALLOY KNIFE: Sports & Outdoors
4-inch blade, can't find stats on overall length. Looking at the pic, seems to be about 7.5-8 inches long.

Oceanic Spinner BCD Scuba Knife
Amazon.com: Oceanic Spinner BCD Scuba Knife: Sports & Outdoors
Blade Length3 inch , Overall Length6 inch

TUSA FK-11 KNIFE BLUNT
Amazon.com: TUSA FK-11 KNIFE BLUNT: Sports & Outdoors
- Overall Length - 6.375" ,Blade Length - 2.875

EVO TITANIUM BC KNIFE
Amazon.com: EVO TITANIUM BC KNIFE: Sports & Outdoors
Knife length: 3" blade, 6.5" overall

Thanks!

I have had all these dives at one time or another. Since then I have been using the Remora. I like it best because it has multiple attachment scenarios and is a little beefier than the ones you have listed. The Remora is better secured in its sheath I think and the cutting edge is very good for rope or line. Never needs sharpening. It has a blunt tip but is made in such a way that it has a tip if you need it. Best bang for your buck.
Remora BC Knife, Dive Knives, Underwater Kinetics, Remora BC Knife

Comes in titanium also.

Agree with WV. The Remora is the sturdiest BC knife I have ever handled or owned. I have the titanium version and am not afraid of breaking it.

Amazon.com: remora knife

I use the Oceanic Spinner attached to my BC. It stays out of the way and is there if I need it. Easy removal and replacement too.

I bought a big cool Bowie sized dive knife when I started diving. I used it about once. I think knives you strap you your leg are a PIA. I ended up with a small Titanium Wekona that I tie wrapped to my inflator hose. The main reason for the inflator hose location is, it is easy to put back in the knife holder with one hand, as I can see it. I primarily use my knife to kill fish I just speared, so a one handed operation is a must. Also, no matter what you get, I recommend Titanium. Reason: It doesn't rust even a little! I don't even take my knife out of the holder and spray it off after a days use in saltwater, and it looks new. Of course you would think Stainless Steel dosn't rust either. It does if you don't rinse it off!

Everything in diving is based upon comfort and making life easier. Diving is equipment intensive and items, such as a knife, that can be attached to your BC and need zero rigging prep before each dive(like having to strap it on your leg) and zero maintenance(no cleaning at the end of the day), makes it just one less thing to screw with or forget or on and on and on.

I like my settup because:
1. I don't know it's there, but it is.
2. I can't forget about it and don't need to remember it between dives.
3. I don't need to remove it for cleaning at the end of the day.
4. It's easily accessed, and easily put away, with one hand.
5. It's small. As you, highly, unlikely will need a big Bowie sized knife for anything.

My preference is the BC Ramora, small with a number of mounting options; perfect when you just want an emergency knife. Mine is mounted to my high pressure hose just above the guages.

Amazon.com: remora knife

Get the $99 pro-pack with the Remora, the small light, and the large light. It's a good price, and the lights and knive are very nice. I've had these for about three years now, and like them very much.

Just needs to be big enough to stick your buddy with enough to attrack the sharks off you, but,.. not big enough to kill him, so you have penty of time to get away.
