HELP, UW Camera Questions?????

I am looking to purchase an UW Camera, but don't want to spend several thousand dollars either.

I have looked at the SeaLife Cameras which seem to be cheaper in price, but are they good cameras? Some friends of ours had one and had nothing but problems w/ it.....but others say its okay....Any Thoughts?

I've looked at the new 10 Sea & Sea one, but it might be a little out of my budget. However, there are some other Sea & Sea ones that are cheaper.

I don't want to purchase a camera and then have to replace it w/in a year. So, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Canon, Olympus and Fuji make great cameras. The main thing to consider is that you can use the camera with the internal flash with the housing you buy. You can get some great shots with a point and shoot camera. Lots of them let you take video too... I'd get a good Point and Shoot with a housing that doesn't have the dome port blocking off the flash and you'll be set... To get a DSLR is more than a few thousand...

Hope that helps!

We have the DC600 and are very happy with it, the key is that you have to have enough light for it to focus and (a) strobe(s) is/are necessary if you are going dark and or deep. It has nice features like being able to view the histogram live, and the enclosure is perfectly shaped for the camera.

Expecting any camera to take excellent pictures at 100' with no external flash is unrealistic. As for manual settings, I want to shoot and move, if I spend $75 on a charter and get a picture of 1 fish per dive and it's a superb picture, I feel like I wasted $$. I shoot and go to the next place and see lots, but that's just me. I could never be patient enough at this point in my life to sit there and adjust settings until it's just perfect.

I'm a fan of point, focus, shoot, done.

I have a Reefmaster Mini. It is not the best camera I have ever owned, but it is reliable, tough, and very inexpensive. I would recommend it if you are one a budget.
