for recreational diving, not tech, no overhead stuff, no wrecks...just get a nice blunt tipped uk remora. small blade will cut through most anything you're likely to ever entangle with (even though you're not likely to entangle unless diving the above mentioned ways)..even kelp. many ways to clip on, nice safe blunt tip, well made. Simple. If you have money to burn and feel the need, then get the titanium version of the same knife. 3-4 inch blades..blunt tip. yup.

This one is stainless multi tool along the lines of a Fog Cutter. The blade is only about 3 inches long which probably all you need. It will fit in a (really big) BC pocket.

Make sure you get the one with the magnifying glass. You'll never know when you need to start a fire underwater.

I think the Dive Rite knife that ST has on sale right now for $3.45 is perfect.

I think everyone buys a huge knife when they first start diving. Then they finally sell the beast on ebay and get a nice small knife. I have a small Wekona Titanium knife tie wrapped to my inflator hose. Great knife! I don't have to rinse it at the end of the day or remember to strap it on or anything. I sold my huge knife on Ebay about a year ago after it sat around for about 4-5 years. I think I used it twice.
