I use a Spyderco Salt on my shoulder D ring and set of shears on my hip pocket. So far I haven't had to use either underwater. I can see the 'pry tool' aspect of a big knife, but other than that I can't see why I would need one. Shave some lead off your weight belt I suppose....

Gentlemen:
Most dive knives out of the box have a rather dull edge. If properly sharpened with a wet stone one can get a pretty good shave with the non-serated side of a 3"-4" blade. Noxema as a shave cream (from the jar, not an aerosol can) works best to avoid those annoying nicks and cuts. I recommend practicing at home first before displaying your skills in public, but it is easier than you think. Plus, saves you having to bring along a razor in your carry on. If travelling with surly or uncooperative childern leave the bathroom door open while shaving on the first morning after your arrival. While shaving in the manner described above, they will be both fascinated and somewhat apprehensive about what you are doing with your dive knife. Very sublty glare at them out of the corner of your eye but do not speak to them or otherwise resond to any of thier querries. If you can manage a slight sneer without loosing control of the blade this will also be helpful. I haven't personally tried this but if you have the appropriate physique do the above while wearing a muscle shirt and (if your hotel/condo will allow) simultaneously smoking a cigarette or cigar as this may enhance the overall effect. I can personally recommend the Arturo Fuente brand-very mild and perfectly legal. I have been pleasantly surprised as to the positive effect that this little morning ritual has had on the general demeanor and disposition of small childern under my care throughout the remainder of the day and indeed the entire vacation. You may also wish to have a Bourbon-on-the-rocks, definitely not single malt Scotch Wiskey with your breakfast. Your breakfast should be simple affair, sunny side up eggs-runny, not firm. Make sure you have this same breakfast every day in front of the children. Do not speak to them or reply to any of thier questions (look at them only) until after you have finnished your eggs and Bourbon. Happy Diving. |
