Safety Sausage

I was wondering what the general consensus was on Safety Sausages. There are so many out there, and the prices are so varied... Does anyone have any suggestions? Orange or Yellow? Length?

That is the one I use...it doubles as a lift bag as well.

I got the DAN safety sausage from ST for a great price, it's at Signaling Devices, Tubes, Dive Alert (5th one down the page). The DAN safety sausage was recently one of the top rated ones in a Scuba Diving review at Lost (And Found) At Sea - Scuba Diving Magazine .

I got the "See Me" Safety Tube off of ST and it seems to do the job. Interesting side note, in a recent rescue class most of the divers had a safety sausage so the instructor made them inflate them. All but two in the class had ever done that before...some didn't put enough air in, some were surpised home much air they had to put in...moral of the story, if you have one try it out, even in the pool, before you need it for real.

Depends on where you dive and what your needs are. The DAN s.s. is good, but large, if all you really need is a small signalling tube. If you're diving Atlantic wrecks near shipping lanes, OTOH, bigger is better.

Carter spearfishing float

I use a Carter spearfishing float attached to my waist belt. It is a small multipurpose float - 25lb lift bag, popper float, 4" diameter x 40" long signaling device. Inflate with CO2 cartridge or 3 breaths. Pricey though $68. Rolled up with CO2 cylinder it is 7" long x less than 3" diameter.
