ScubaSight Dive Mirror underwater scuba aid wrist tool

Anyone ever use one of these? Would they be useful? Comments? I just had my 3rd dive, and the limited sight from the mask is a little bothersome to me. I need to keep an eye on my 14 year old, as it is his 3rd dive also.

ScubaSight Dive Mirror

Thanks
lj

Don't bother, IMO.

Teach yourself and your 14 year old to dive TOGETHER. That means that you stay basically shoulder to shoulder, where each can see each other and each can reach the other quickly in case of a problem.

I am 23 years old. I learned to dive with my father when I was 12, and if this mirror had been on the market back then, it would have helped greatly.

ScubaSight is a great tool for ANY diver, whether you are trying to keep an eye on your 14 year old(or any other dive buddy), looking above you when ascending a rope, checking for leaks on your tank, or finding something you may be tangled in.

Pir8, I wonder. Have you ever used a ScubaSight mirror? My guess is no. because if you had you would know that every image you see in the mirror is crystal clear. It's just as clear as any mirror you might have in your bathroom. its not some cheap plastic mirror that makes everything look hazy.

and fisheater, obviously it is ideal to stay within an arms reach of your dive partner, but every dive is not always the "ideal" dive. Sometimes buddies get seperated, sometimes you get tangled, and sometimes you even need to do something simple like check for hair in the seal of your mask. During my first couple of dives I realized how easy it is to lose your buddy, even if they are right above you. having to twist your body to look around is alot harder than just looking in a mirror. Example: during a dive with my father i thought i had lost him, so i started looking on all sides of me, but didnt see him, then when i turned myself over on my back to find that he was right above me the whole time, I landed on my back in the muck on the bottom, stirring up the quarry, and making it impossible to see more than a foot or two. If i had the mirror, i could have easily looked above me and the water would have still been clear for the rest of the dive.

Um, I keep track of anywhere from 1 to 12 divers at a time, never had a need for a mirror... if I want to look at someone, I flip over, frog kick backwards a couple times, flip back over and continue on...

Although a mirror may help your vision of your buddy, it does not help what they depend on you (either buddy or guide) for, which is eye contact.

Seriously, on a DM guided dive, would you want the DM to appear to completely ignore you the whole time??? I like my buddies checking on me, the same as I check on them...

muskadiver - I suppose if you would have simply looked above you to start, it would have been ok, instead of looking all around you... that is an instinct that takes many dives to obtain... just because you would have had a mirror does not mean you would have automatically angled it upwards... you would have been looking around, possibly through the mirror too, but you would not have been focused on looking up, just as you did... mirror or not makes no difference...

kinda like rear view mirrors on cars... many times it is just as easy, if not easier to simply turn your head...

Another great example of a needless accessory that complicate your life more than simplify it. One more thing to put on, one other thing to get in the way of your computer or compass, and as others have said.... just rotate over and look if you want to see behind you. And buddies should be side by side, not behind.

And if rotating over makes you fall to the bottom and land in silt - then work on your buoyancy - not your mirror usage!

I've also seen a little rear view mirror that attached to the mask... Again, I've known guys who ride bicycles that like them... but for diving... er.... no thanks.

Hey Muska, How about a little Truth in advertising? You are obviously involved with the company that sells this P.O.C.. Why don't you just pay to promote your products like other companies and take the BS off the ST forum thanks.

I would have settled for a little honesty in saying... "Hey, I represent this company, and actually - you might like it... How about I send one to ScubaToys, and have them have some of their instructors try it out.. and some of their students... Then we get a report back here?"

but, yea... the approach you took, you will find, will make sure your company and products get slammed...

Better put Larry. This is why you head a multi million dollar Scuba empire, and I head up restraining orders. Just joking, about the restraining orders anyway...I never leave witnesses.

Well despite this thread and the way it is heading

I carry a little mirror in my Drysuit pocket and this one in the link looks the bomb

As I solo dive on a Rebreather a mirror is an essential tool for the type of diving diving me and my fellow divers do.

I use it on every dive at my 5m bubble check to look behind me at my CCR to ensure all is well that I have no gas escaping and everything is where it is supposed to be.

Also used it twice in a wreck when I got hung up on some cable and some fishing net, I would have to say my little mirror may have saved my life in those situations.

A friend of mine was lost at sea for 8 hours after getting caught in a current, he was found by a search plane that said if he didnt have a mirror on him they never would have found him.

Maybe you muppett divers might want to look past your closed views and at other ways a product can save your life...
