If I'm diving the next day, I unroll it, empty it of any water and hang to dry. If I'm putting it away for a while (I don't get to dive nearly as much as I'd like... ), I will inflate it and hang it inflated so the inside will also dry out and develop mildew...

Long life to all your sausages!!!

mine gets used daily, so, a quick rinse in freshwater and it gets hung (rolled) with my gear...

its been used like that for 3 months no problem, no mildew or growth... prepared to do some real cleaning if needed though...

If I'm using it daily(clipped to my BC or deploying) I usually do nothing until the end of the trip. Then I wash it and dry it for storing.

Along the same topic, what about reels, do you unspool all of the line to let it dry before storage?

No, I don't unspool to dry my line, but I will give it good soaking in the tub then hang it up to dry. I will occasionally unspool and check for cuts while it's dry though.

I would guess the same question could be asked about your BC or wing bladder. I don't do any thing but rinse off both the SMB and Wing. I drain as much water out (both WING and SMB) as I can but have never rinsed one out. My SMB is about 5 years old and get used about every week or maybe every other weekend. I empty and drain it as good as possible, roll it up, and it doesn't get unrolled again until it gets used the next week or so.

freshwater, the worst that can happen is some mold and such... in saltwater, there is a possibility of salt buildup on valves, so we always rinse inside and out...

If you use the sausage that ofter, I probably wouldn't worry about it much either. The BC, on the other hand, I'd rinse after every dive day (or weekend). I personally remove the inflater assy, and pour a little vinegar in, then fill with water. Shake well, rinse. I use vinegar in my rinse tub too. Vinegar neutralizes salt.
