Question What do you write on your slate?

I purchased a flip slate and plan to write some permanent msgs on the 2nd and 3d pages, so I don't have to write them underwater.

I came up with; "current" and an arrow ----> and "FERRY BOAT! --->"

Any other must haves? What have you written lately?

I haven't really used mine in a long while, it's more for emergencies, and attaching my primary decompression tables to and keeping them tucked out of the way.

I think the last time I wrote on it I was calculating my SAC last season.

I guess just right whatever you find yourself having to tell your buddy every single dive that can't clearly be expressed with hands or yelling through the regulator.

Around here it is the constant "chug a chug a chuga" of ships and boats. Though my DB and I are still looking for 6 gill SHARKS!

I use hand signals for most stuff (like current) on regular dives. I take along a slate (or rather one of those magnetic toy thingies) to jot down the common names of fish for divers new to our area when I'm leading dives. Other than that, flip slates and waterproof notepads/notebooks are very useful for noting down the depths and times for deco stops on technical dives. Since I rarely do tech dives, this hasn't been an important function of my slate. And besides, deco stops wouldn't be permanently noted unless you do the same dive over and over.

On the back of my magnetic slate I've written 3 MINUTES/5 METERS to remind anybody who's not paying attention that it's time for a safety stop. That one is permanent.

I write sudoku, tic tac toe, plans for world domination, stuff in latin or chinese, important finds underwater, funny message and leave them in front of underwater webcams, sometimes communication, Other then that, nothing much on the slate.

SUDOKU!! Now that is something new that I might use on my next deco.

Personally all I have used my slate for are my deco schedules and alternatives.
