Ebay DPVs...
I keep seeing these on ebay going for under $100: 300 - 350 Watt Water Sea Scooter DPV Scuba Diving Pool - eBay (item 320394776150 end time Jul-09-09 16:26:51 PDT)
Anyone know anything about it? Is this the Sea Doo clone that I have read about that explodes?

While I have not read of it exploding, I have read that the flood very easily and do not have any power for a scuba diver. If you want to use one in pool or a lake when you are just swimming it is probably fine. Or if you wanted to use it for scuba diving figure if it floods well that $100 is just gone.
I personally would not buy one with the intent on using it for scuba. But if you decide to give it a shot let us know how it goes... Phil

Add me to the list of those who'd like to know if these things actually work. I dive in a nearby lake semi-regularly and would be interested in something like this so I can cover more ground. It's pretty darn boring down there most times, only so many raft ladders and zebra mussel covered cinder blocks you can look at!!

I've tried one of the SeaDoo brand ones. It pulled me around the local quarry fine. (single tank, wetsuit).
If you're gonna go in current, use doubles or a drysuit that has more drag, then you might want more. (although the guy I know that has these uses them with doubles and drysuits. he just says it doesn't go quiet as fast). As for these EBAY scooters. I'll have to say I've been tempted by these and others. but gimme a break. what are you really getting for $100 to $150 ? It's got to be a piece of junk that is just waiting to break. and a scooter that breaks just means a LONG ASS SWIM while towing a broken scooter. just something to think about. |
