BEst knife for starting out

What is the best knife you guys would recommend for a new diver. Also should i care two one on my leg and maybe one on my bc. SOmething around the 50 bucks line unless i need to go higher to get a good knife but i do not want a high end knife when a cheaper one will do

The lest expensive one you can find that you dont mind losing. ya dont need much more than trauma shears (for cutting line) and or a small SS blade.

I carry a pair of shears (about 1$/pair when bought in bulk from Ebay) and a small z knife.

Cut-down steak knife & safety shears. Total cost - under $5.

I recommend 2. Strap one to each side of your tank for easy access.

The OW instructors I worked with recently don't even allow OW students to carry a knife, so you may be getting ahead of yourself.

That said, a small knife mounted on your waist strap in a central location where it can be reached with either hand is all that's needed. The broken-off steak knives are great, but if you prefer a commercial solution, either of these two are all the knife a diver is ever likely to need:

As a fellow bigger diver, I don't like a knife mounted in the middle. I find that the handle pokes my gut. What I do is carry a broken steak knife style on the left, emt shears on the right and a BIG A$$ titanium dive knife on my right calve. The big knife is just because I think it's cool and am not that worried about what others think about it.

I carry a serrated double edge stiletto style (Omer USA Team Maxi Laser) knife on my left arm for spearfishing and a blunt tip blade strapped on my HP line. I am thinking about sewing a chest mount on my wetsuit for the fishing knife.
