Which Reel
What's the deal with reels; Seems they go straight from cheap to expensive with nothing in between. Would this hunk-o-plastic-crap work for a cavern course?
Scubamax 150 foot Dive Reel reviews and discounts, Scubamax Why in the world does one need a reel for a cavern course anyhow? Good grief, I need another credit card... |

Not a cave or cavern diver, but for me? NO! My life is worth more.
I have that size as well as the smaller one-they have a habit of unwinding too easily when you don't want them to. I use mine for open water/non-overhead uses like running a line in less than stellar vis where I need to get back to the starting point with minimal time delay. If you're taking the cavern course, I would ask the instructor.

No, don't use that for any level of cave diving. Buy a decent diverite 150' reel. that will get you through cavern class just fine.
You need the real becuase you must always have a direct line to open water. This is the one rule that kills the most people when violated..

Is 150' long enough? Where do you attach the end of the reel? on the surface or just outside the cavern?
Also.. I dislike R. Lee Ermy. I can't stand his voice when he does those shoes on the history channel. I watch them because they are interesting, but sometimes I wish they had someone else. |
