Link to FL-11 Housing
Fantasea Line Water Sports Photo Products & Accessories- FL-11 Underwater Housing for Nikon Coolpix L11 Camera The housing should come with a diffuser that already covers the cameras flash. According to the manual for the fiber optic cable the flat plastic connector should go behind the diffuser and attach to the camera housing surface. I would guess the between the F/O connector and diffuser this should block the cameras flash enough. If the housing does not have the diffuser you would need to use tape to block what the connector does not cover. You do not want to block anything other than the flash. The red light you are referring to is likely the focus laser used by the cameras auto focus, this should not be covered in any way.

thanks for all your help I am going to play with it this weekend. The problem with the diffuser is that the fiberoptic cable is attached with housing with a velcro like plastic boot and it is so thick that the plastic that fits over it and the diffuser would be put into is flush against the plastic that is doesn't leave any room for the diffuser. I may not be explaining it well. I put the boot of the optic cable directly behind the the plastic that holds the difuser and the velco boot is so thick that the difusser has no room
when I think about it though I could put that boot anywhere I would think as long as it was exposed to the flash on the camera to trigger the slave strobe Last edited by Clernix : 10-14-2009 at 06:58 PM. Reason: add text |

Take a look at it this weekend and see if you can get it to fit. You would think they considered this when making the housing. Go through the manuals (they are online at the Fantasea website also) and see if they adress this issue.
Post what you find and we can go from there............

I finally had time to test the camera last night. I did get the diffuser in place although it is forced and you can't take it out without removing the three mount screws. I find this desing faulty at best. The pictures are overexposed around the house but I don't think that will be an issue at 90ft.
I ordered the 6117 flash. I got it online for $154. I see a complete upgrade coming anway since my gf likes to use the camera as well. Spending $300 or more seemed like a bad choice since I am a little disappointed in Fantasea atm. Maybe the new flash will change that. I can't go dsr but something in the 1k range with a good flash is what I was thinking as an upgrade. Thanks for your help Devil |

I tried out the 6117 this weekend finally (damm work won't give me a break). Its a much more solid flash. It fires with no problems and it is easy to adjust. I am going to take the 2075 with me to Coz too to work on it and see if I can get it to do what I want it to do.
Question: would it be worth the investment of a larger tray, extra arm and optic cable to mount them both? |

I believe you will only need the Arm and F/O cable. It appears the arm will just attach to the other end of the existing tray. Are you using the Flex or the Al arms?
Yes you will be better off with duel strobes..... you will get better coverage and it will give you more options/choices for fill-in lighting and controlling shadows. Are you still having issues with the the Nano firing?

It is firing better but I haven't worked with it much but I have a better understanding of how it should work now thanks to you so I am on the right path. You mention fill in lighting I am assuming there are a lot of options as to using the diffuser on one flash on both flashes on which flash and so on. Can you recommend a site I can go to to read up on it?
