side sonar scanning

These side sonar scanning devices seem pretty cool for finding things. I wonder how good a resolution they provide?

Here's a link to some sample images. These guys found the B-29 in Lake Mead using it - granted that's a pretty big plane. http://www.indepthconsulting.com/Sonar/Samples1.htm

Interesting, never heard of them being used to search for drowning victims.

That's pretty amazing. I bet this system cost a bunch. IT would be cool for planning your dive though. I bet we are looking at a whole new evolution in under water recovery.

They're not cheap, basic units start around $20K.
