Anyone add spring straps to a post style fin? If so, what brand and are you happy with your purchase?

YES I use them,,,for years now.

You asked about 'posted' fins....I use them on a pair of Mares Quattro fins...work great. The ones I use are, EZ Spring Fin Strap-Pro Diver series.

texdiveguy: I got confused when you said "you improve your dive life.....really" I assume you mean you improve your fin strap life??

Reefhound, the ones that you are using with the rubber loop in the back do they also use the metal connection for the post?

It's quite easy to make your own. This is one example:

I picked up a pair of spring straps about 6 months ago, and I'm never looking back. You might want to look at the XS Scuba spring straps. They come with adapters to fit pretty much any fin.

I doubt if Home Depot will have the right springs. They need to be fairly good quality stainless steel. That link has the source for the correct size and metal. The design I followed called for 3/16" SS anchor shackles to attach to the fin posts. The SS wire is probably cheaper and easier. I also ran a length of nylon line thru the inside of the springs and tied to the shackles to limit the springs travel so they don't stretch out. If you do some searching, you'll find a lot more links to DIY spring straps.

Yup, spring straps are so good that it's a wonder the manufacturers don't start including them as part of the fin. Taking the fin on and off is so much easier and it's depth compensating to boot, a win win.
