I'm guessing that a DD would buy http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detai...t_id=RipTideBC
that BC without a second thought. It's very bright. I might get one myself, the price is great, but I may scare away all aquatic life within a hundred feet. |

I always carry at least 2 cutting tools. One of them is a pair of shears. Shears for the most part cut most anything one handed. But there are some situations where a knife is better:
1. Rope or line cutting where the line is tight against an object and it is not possible to get one blade of the shears behind. 2. Certain celophane tapes 3. Defense from giant squid. |

I have until recently dove with a knife and shears. I just recently added a rescue cutter to the mix simply because I won it as a door price at the ScubaToys party. Some might say 3 cutting devices is overkill, and they're probably right, but when Murphy starts to conspire against me I'll be glad to have options.
I also prefer to have the knife as I can bang up against my tank to get attention easily. The shears stay in a BC pocket so they are not terribly accessible. The rescue cutter and the knife are both very accessible to me and very noticeable such that if I were ever to get into a situation where I couldn't help myself hopefully my buddy would be able to use my own cutting devices in the event they were not carrying any. I guess that's something I need to add to my buddy check, you do carry cutting implements right?
