Now talking about that, is that just plain car keys or car keys with remotes? Where do you put them ?

<DIV>Both. Obviously there's no issues with keeping plain keys dry but there are issues with the remote ones! This is just from comments I've read on the net. You can get little waterproof to Xm boxes that keys can go in and you just attach them to your BCD or put them in a pocket. I don't know what's wrong with keeping them in the boat??? Perhaps this is more for shore dives where you can't leave anything behind.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>If it were me I'd just take the plain key with me and not the remote one. Not worth the risk of water getting into the casing ... especially if you are somewhere remote and you can't get into the car or start it up!!</DIV>

I'd even be careful taking just the key. Most new car keys have some sort of transmitter in them. I have no idea how waterproof they are.

Oh, another idea I'd read about was taking an old dive torch, taking out the batteries and using that as a container for things - eg, keys. Probably only worth doing if you do have an old one lying around not being used.

<DIV>My car is a bit older and has a 'manual' key and a electric one (with the alarm). I could lock my car with the key and keep the electic bit inside hidden somewhere. The only downside is that the alarm wouldn't be set. And I'm not sure how (leaving the electric bit inside) would affect your insurance if someone broke in.</DIV>

Um...if someone did broke in, you would just tell your insurance you locked your car and the alarm was set
