Spyderco makes a line called "Salt" that are impervious to rust yet hold an edge. I believe the only styles available at the moment are folding knives however they are supposed to be coming out with a non folder that will be more suitable to scuba diving. As for the point and blunt...the knife is a tool so you have to think of what you are going to use it for...and how and where you will carry and deploy it at depth. When I was a rescue diver at work we had these big knives strapped to our inside leg area, never used it and it was more of a hinderance than anything...but we looked cool...or so we thought. So consider the type of diving you do, the equipment set up you have and the reason or uses this tool will be used for and then go with those things in mind. I plan on giving the Spyderco a serious look given that almost every knife I have had eventually started to rust no matter how well I cleaned them short of taking them apart every day after diving. Good luck.

I have Ti knives and stainless ones.. as I take care of them, clean them, sharpen them, rust has never been an issue. What I care most about is what and how it is attached to you. There are not a lot of good leg sheaths made, nor a lot of good holding designs.

I love the Remora. They come in titanium also. But there are several good ways to mount these knives, hose, leg, BC. I've never lost one, it never needs sharpening, is blunt but still has a point, it is slim and streamlined too, has a place to attach a lanyard and you can't beat the price.

I wish the handle was just a little longer.

I have a Tilos Stainless Steel for myself and my wife that are sharp tip, and my teenagers have blunt tip versions of the same knife. Basically, the blunt tip is to avoid putting a puncture hole in something that shouldn't have a hole. Examples include your BC, dive buddy, dive master, etc.

Benchmade has a dive knife made out of X15T.N which is supposedly better than the H1 alloy that Spyderco uses. It is a sheath knife, but is a little pricey ($130).

here is a link: Product Details (Benchmade Knife Company - Premiere manufacturer of knives and rescue tools.)

I have a Deep See Squeeze Lock Titanium (blunt tip) and Love it. I take it out of the sheath rinse and let dry before I put it back and have no problems with it. Has a nice sharp blade and a line cutter on the backside

I had a Winoka Squeeze Tite Titanium and really liked it. In fact I thought it was such a good knife that I gave it to my son. Now I have a ScubaMax Folding Titantium Knife that came with a neat case in divers flag colors.
I have never had a need for a knife but I guess it is like your Octo, if you need it, you better be able to find it fast and know that it works.
Oh, to answer the OP's questions. I prefer a blunt tip because I fear I may stab myself putting it back if I ever had to take it out of the sheath. Plus, I figure I will use it more for prying than stabbing so a blunt tip seemed to be a better choice.
But, I know Spearfishing guys want a sharp point and a big knife because they do stab fish with it. I met guys that go spearfishing around the gulf oil rigs and they frequently shoot BIG fish and stab them once they get close enough. Otherwise they will take an eternity to get them up.

I consider the blunt tip "pre-broken" since if you use your knife enough you'r going to break the tip. Might as well buy it that way. :-)

I don't know if I would call it better, but it does have some different properties. Basically, with the X15, you lose some corrosion resistance and gain some wear resistance compared to the H1. The first Benchmades were made with H1, and they are highly prized by their owners. You just have to decide if edge holding on a dive knife outranks corrosion resistance.

By the way, the X15 corrosion resistance is not bad, much better than the stainless steel most companies use, but just not rust proof like H1, Talonite, Stellite, and titanium.
