Question Some sort of safety comm w/ topside?

i got to thinking while watching people walk around walmart with those two way walkie-talkies that there must be some sort of way to communicate like this with the mother ship topside or on the shore or from buddy to buddy that isn't as low tech as a tank banger or whistle. is there? it would obviously need to be something like a light and morse code or even text (like with cell phones)...anyone ever hear of or thought about this?? and if you invent and build it after reading it here then i get a residual off of it in someway

That's not dive gear...that's highly modified high altitude flight helmets...

Surprisingly less expensive than I thought. About $700 for the mask/reg set up. The comm gear is ultrasonic w/about a 400m range and an operating depth of 120'

Yeah, for what you get I think they're pretty reasonable.

Moosic, try sticking a pipe in the water and talking through it from the top side. Hows that for cheap? LOL! Only works one way though...

You have to check out Ocean Reef's site! They actually have a set up for underwater cell phone. http://www.oceanreefgroup.com/pdf/alpha_uwcp.pdf

Now call me old fashioned but if you can't leave your cell phone alone for an hour or so... you need a new hobby.

Many years ago there was a short lived product out that was essentially a mouth piece that covered your entire mouth that was attached to what could accurately be described as a punching ball that we used in pre-school (or Romper room if you're THAT old).

You took in a deep breath, exhaled it into this little bag thing stretched it out a bit and then talked. It didn't work very well, that's why mine is somewhere in the time capsule I call a gear locker. I will try to find it and get a picture.

ETA: The picture...The thing was called of all things SeaVoice-their ad was "Now hear this.." With some scantily clad young lass underwater-the product did not compliment her figure though,

Sounds a lot like those folks were watching way too many Warner Bros. cartoons, where the underwater characters' voices stayed in their bubbles, until busting at the surface.
