JW fishers are the "Cadillac" of UW detectors. They are incredible units, but you pay a pretty penny for them. I think these are rated to over 150ft depth.
I have 2 UW detectors from Whites. One is the Surfmaster2 (VLF), the other is the PI pro. I think they have discontinued the SM series for a newer VLF model. I believe the whites models are rated to 100ft depth. If you are going to be working in saltwater I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend a PI (pulse induction) unit. PI's aren't affected by the conductive salts like a VLF's are. Of course then there is the Minelab excaliber, which is a multi-freq VLF that I hear works well in saltwater too. I have used my UW detectors in both freshwater lakes and the ocean, and found a lot of nice stuff with them. Sadly I haven't taken one diving yet. My local lakes are all rock/boulder bottoms, so target recovery would be pretty hard. A clean sand bottom is so much nicer. FD |

I own a 1280x and a pulse 8. both are great machines. the 1280x has discrimination but I dont use it. why ? there might be something good under that beer can or rusty piece of iron.
p.s. always recheck the hole. you'd be surprised how many times 2 or more objects come out of the same hole. I am well satisfied with both detectors. the pulse will go much deeper than the 1280x. the 1280x is much easier to operate than the pulse 8. the 1280 makes a different sound depending on the target. the pulse just whirrs. the pulse has located an aluminum hubcap at over 2.5 feet. 1280x was $250.00 used pulse 8 was $800.00 used. I'm very happy with both. |
