Question UW Metal Detector

Has anyone used one before? What brand? Were you satisfied?

I have been looking at a couple in the $500-$600 range that apeared to be what I wanted, but I was hoping for some feedback. Thanks.

I haven't used any but am very curious about them also. I am sure there is a big price range from entry models to the ones that really work.

Also curious. I used to do a lot of metal detecting on land when I was younger, found some cool civil war relics. I wouldn't mind finding one to use underwater, b/c I know of some good river sites where I could find some good civil war stuff too. Found a cavalry pistol down in Georgia once (minus the wooden grips on the handle).

Nice site - but - "underwater" is the optimum word here.

My Dive team has one, it's a Fisher 1280-X Aquanaut, it definitely works but to not miss small things you have to have the settings sensitive enough to where you wind up finding a lot of junk (cans, etc. ) after a while you can tell the size of the item by the alert that you get when passing the coil over the area. Long alert usually something large or can size, small chirp (you guessed it) something small like a bottle cap . Haven't found any burried treasure yet, but it is a fun toy to use.

With a small bit of creativity it could be adapted to underwater use. One day I plan to build one.
