I was on a fishing chart in the gulf of Mexico last year and GPSs were banned as well.

I read an article about a year ago that outlined that this technology is being worked on and should be availabe "some time". Not sure what all that means. Not sure if science will let this happen, but apparently there are some who know alot more about it than me who thinks it can happen. When???? Who knows, but sure would be cool.

Makes me wonder how the try to regulate all of the GPS Cell phones?

Do dive operators check the passengers baggage to make sure they don't have a GPS? I guess it is their livelyhood to record all the best dive spots.

haha, my phone has a build in GPS.... they would never know.... LOL
Besides I love to write down the dive location in my log book.
