Rustproofing for new diving knife?

I bought a new diving knife - Hydralloy Blue Tang.
What if I spray its blade with CRC SP-400?
Would it be an extra rust protection?

TIA

The whole point to hydralloy is it's increased rust resistance. Don't bother.

Plus, many chemical fumes can be bad for your other dive gear, especially latex and rubber.

Nice knife, by the way.

Two things to consider:

My first dive knife, I gave away after 30 years of diving with no noticeable corrosion (it was in fine shape, but the plastic case was falling apart, and it was, well, rather large) It was made from 316 stainless... and alloy no where near as good as Hydralloy is. It was with me on several thousand dives (mostly in the tropics).

That is some very nasty stuff. It works , but is not something you would want to get on your skin, in the water, or on wetsuits. Just think what would happen if you decide to do the classic pinapple cut up between dives and kill half the people on the boat.

How about just rinsing and drying...

Rinse/wash it and sheath good after every dive. Let it dry good. Spray with Rem Oil...Sporting goods at Walmart... and let it sit so the lube flows everywhere. I usally walk away and let it sit for an hour or so. Wipe off the excess but leave a nice coat, and store until next dive. You do this like clock work you'll be surprised at the outcome.

If I may add, the Tang series of UK knives can be completely disassembled leaving only the metal blade exposed. After every "dive outing" (after which I won't be using it for a while), I disassemble the whole knife to expose the metal parts. I rince them completely and let dry thoroughly.

Oh, did I mention mine is Titanium??? That also helps...

if you rinse your steel knife properly and let dry thoroughly, it won't rust.

Cheers!

rinse it well, just take it apart and give it a good rinse and dry. If you want to protect the blade a little more you can put a VERY thin layer of silicone grease on it, kind of like you do w/ camera orings.

If your knife is Titanium, why are you bothering with the disassembly? There's no benefit, as Titanium will not corrode in your lifetime. Or your children's. Or their children's. Or their children's. Etc.

No harm in doing so, of course, but no benefit, either. I have enough gear to wash as it is, that's why I bought all the Titanium stuff in the first place. Since I bought it, it came out of the sheath once to cut some cave line. Other than that, it lives in it's sheath and gets rinsed as it it were a built-in part of my rig. Love that!

Yes, I have been using Titanium for a few years and I don't even remove it from it's sheath to spray it off. Saltwater and all, nothing corodes it even a little bit. I'll never go back to Stainless.

Not entirely true... I believe I recently read that Titanium does corrode. I think it takes something like 5000 years for salt water to corrode it, however, so we should be ok neglecting the knives for a while.
