I did not fight my way to the top off the food chain with a pair of scissors, either.
Although they are politically incorrect to dive with, I too have a few USD Sea Hawk Knives - GREAT KNIFE! - As someone on another board put it... Any of "THE 300" would have been proud to carry a Sea Hawk.

Your best places for a knife or dive tool is at the belt level or attached to the bc were it can be reached with both hands. Always carry a back-up knife or shears.

I suppose there is a slight risk from entanglement (no where near as big as most fin strap attachments, and in some environments, that would be a concern. However, having worn one on the inside of my leg for...well, more than a week, I don't believe that is a major concern in most diving.

I don't carry one in kelp.. or in wrecks, but I do when spear fishing/lobster hunting or just taking pictures. But I also have a belt knife, a bc knife and and shears.

Having been intangled a bunch of times (mostly fishing line on wrecks), it is easy to get entangled where you cannnot reach one side or the other, so I have something on both sides.

Oddly, I had around 5 to 1 fin entanglements (versus every where else) while using jet fins, and have never had one since switching to apollo fins with springs. I have never had a knife or knife strap entanglement.

It should also be noted that most straps today, if they were entangled can be dissconnected by just pulling hard (if you cannot reach it).

And I think if I was going to loose one from kicking, it would have happened several thousands dives earlier. I have lost a grand total of one knife, and that was because I forgot to put it in my bag after taking it off.

I have lost BC knives... waistbelt knives... but never the leg knife.
You are an exception!!! I am impressed with your record...it beats the normal odds...what ever you are doing, by all means keep doing it--it must be working for you. As for the majority of divers carrying a knife strapped to the leg is not the best place for the reasons given in my previous post. When I started diving year back I to carried one of those big rubber handled Dacor sabers...you know the one...it was strapped to my leg. Gear and technique have changed over the years and for the betterment in most cases...knives are one issue in scuba gear that have taken major steps forward!

Well, I have 2 knives, one in the BC pocket, and one on the inflator hose. The inflator hose is a Remora, which I like. The other was a tool set device, which includes a set of shears, a knife and a slate in one unit. So far the snaps have all rusted, and been replaced with velcro, and now the shears broke from rust.

The Remora was confiscated by Ships security on the cruise ship I was on. I got it back at the end of the voyage from the reciept. 4" or langer blades!

Mine was a Dacor also... now that was a knife.

Dacor did make a great knife back in the day. !2" of Solingen steel. Ranked right up there with the SeaHawk.

I use this exact same setup. Good quality knives that will last a long time if you take care of them. You just need to decide how BIG a knife you need. Oh, I also carry a pair of shears in my pocket....

type of knife

go titanium!! you will have it forever, salt or fresh, i like the bc mount, also the blunt edge is a great idea so you don't snap the tip off on it.

Two suggestions: 1) get something cheap. You don't need a titanium knife to cut anything down there, and you don't want to make a foolish decision chasing a $50-100 piece of metal if it falls out of its pocket.

2) get EMT shears. They're sharp enough and provide enough leverage to cut through a penny, and there's less chance you'll cut/stab your suit.
