Tips to buy a knife???
Looking for some good tips for buying a new dive knife. Don't want to spend a boat load, but with so many different kinds out there, and me about to make an order from ST's, I figured it was a good time to ask!!!

For a leg knife, I carry a Titanium Blue Tang (Drop Tip style) Titanium Blue Tang Knife, Dive Knives, Underwater Kinetics, Titanium Blue Tang Knife. Light weight, super resistant to corrosion, and has a comfortable grip. - The Hydralloy version Hydralloy Blue Tang Knife, Dive Knives, Underwater Kinetics, Hydralloy Blue Tang Knife is also very nice and far less expensive.

I like the looks of that one. I think stainless will be the way to go though. I don't do much salt water diving, and light oil should protect it enough for me. At 35 bucks, looks like a good deal.

IMO ....I really don't suggest a 'leg mounted' knife for several reasons. Despite it looking kool....they present a great entanglement potential even when worn to the inside,,,,also they are difficult to reach in certain dive enviroments (small space areas/poor vis)....they can get knocked loose while finning, very common. Your best places for a knife or dive tool is at the belt level or attached to the bc were it can be reached with both hands. Always carry a back-up knife or shears.

I carry a small Akona knife on the waist band of my BP/W. I think the blade is only 3-4" long total. There's really no need for a large knife when diving. And keeping it central on your body gives you the best chance of accessing it when you need it without making your situation worse.
