Always carry on for regs and computer and camera, just don't trust the baggage handlers.

As I was waiting to board our plane on my last flight, I watched them unload the baggage. I saw at least seven bags fall from the front cargo hold to the concrete, completely missing the conveyor belt. I carry my regs and computers, as well as cameras, but I do pack the camera housing inside a roll of t-shirts in the middle of my checked luggage. Anything else that gets lost, I can rent replacements, but we are picky about our regs (we have Seacure mouthpieces).

I'm also a believer in carrying on whatever I can. I always carry regs, computers, one mask, and camera equipment. That way if something happened, I could use a rental BC and fins. It's not worth the stuff getting lost.
One tip though....don't forget to take your dive knife off of your reg before you go through security. (I've heard that can be an issue!).

Regs and camera --carry-on. Must have better half to carry on computer.

My thinking at this point is just to move to Bonaire--then I will not have to worry about TSA.

yep, I've seen stuff falling off the conveyor belt plenty of times. Never mind the way they chuck stuff around in general.
