Back Your Console Computer?

How many of you check your regs/computer and how many carry them on? Which is the safest way?

Either is ok. You would naturally want to be careful how you pack them in checked luggage because of the baggage gorillas, this is less of a concern in your carry on. If you have it in carryon it increases the chances TSA will want to search your bag, but that's not a big deal or problem.

I put mine in carry on, as I think most (not all) people do, because I want it if they lose my bags (which has happened.) And so I don't have to worry about the baggage gorillas. It also gets several pounds out of my checked bag.

I always pack our computers and regs in our carry ons. It's far too easy for someone to take them out of your luggage. And if they're with me, I know they're safe. Not to mention that if I could only pick one piece of gear to travel with...as much as I love my backplate and wing, I would prefer to have my own regulators.

They go in the backpack....that and a rolling carry-on are all I travel with. (Of course I'm not a photographer so it's possible to get it all in the 2 bags.) The secret is to travel with someone who IS a photographer, heh, heh.

They go in the carry on to save weight and keep them safe. If you use one,you would also want to take a presciption mask with you in your carry on.

I carry on the regs and computer as well as the mask(Rx)...the rest of the gear is an easy rental should it get lost.

Pack and Carry on

I carry on (in a rolling bag) octo, computer, mask, meds and dive log/c-cards. The rest gets put in a non-descript rolling duffel. I am not a photographer, so my carry on has lots of room for other stuff. That way if my duffel gets "lost" or pilfered, I can rent what I need, but I like my mouthpiece (custom fitted) and mask (prescription). Hope that helps.
