Strobe light

This is a really good light that I would highly reccommed. It's light, cheap and puts out a lot of light. I asked for it for christmas and I got two of them. (which is what I wanted)

I haven't used it for diving yet but above water it's super bright. I've taken to using it while I walk the dog in the morning and at night, because the cars couldn't see a guy walking down the road waring light colors (white, yellow, etc) with a flashlight walking a dog. I bring this baby out there and boy, oh boy do the cars slow down and notice your there.

Note: Don't look directly at the light...

I'd be interested to hear if it floats lens up in the water. Would ya be willing to fill up a sink? I'd also like to hear from Joe or Larry about what they have that is similar...size, weight...yada, yada, yada

I heard someone say they didn't like strobe type lights for night diving becaused it messed with your eyes or was distracting. I have only done one night dive. So I am not sure if this it true or not.

If someone strapped a strobe light to their tank on a night dive, I'd cut it off, the strobing will ruin your night vision, and will probably get annoying after a bit. On the other hand, I carry a strobe with me on night dives for emergencies, it just stays off until needed.

I guess that begs the question, what would be the preferred alternative for a night dive? Calumite stick?

Yes, a cyalume stick is my preferred light, if the water is clear, use red, since it will not affect night vision as much. If the water is not as clear, use white or blue.

When I took AOW at Lake Travis, my instructor had one of those strobes so we could find him at night, it had a range in that water of about 18". Not much of a vision problem. I have one of these: Princeton Tec Eco-Flare Tank Light, Dive Lights, Princeton Tec, Princeton Tec Eco-Flare Tank Light It seems to work well in clear water, and is non-intrusive to other divers, but your buddy can identify you easily.

I have a little bat. operated glow light that I got from ST. It glows kind of a pink color and seemed to work well.
