Blunt tip vs. Pointed tip.
So what does everyone prefer, and why? Blunt tip knife or pointed tip knife? What situation would you prefer each and does anybody carry two? Maybe a pointed on the calf and a blunt on the BC or visa versa?

right now I only have a pointed tip, Aquatec's T-Rex to be exact.
but from what I understand, blunt-tip is better for digging and prying. I don't do any of that, so I didn't need a blunt-tip. But in case the need arises, I am actually considering a smaller knife, which will be the ScubaPro's newest BC knife. I think it's a blunt-tip. |

I prefer a blunt tip knife if I expect to have to pry things, or avoid stabbing things, and a pointed tip knife if I expect to have stabbing to do, as when hunting flatfish. Generally speaking, I think a pointed tip knife is unnecessary, and in the majority of cases you'd be better off with a line cutter or shears than either.
I personally carry a pointed knife and shears, and I have filet and shucking knives in my bag. |

Blunt tips are safer for your gear (think accidental punctures), and better for prying. Pointy tips are better for poking holes on purpose, especially small holes, but the tip is more fragile and you do have to be more careful.
I personally prefer pointy tips... slightly. I'm not the sort of person that often has issues, however, so depending on how accident-prone you are in general, it's worth considering the blunt tip. And they are better in some situations. I carry shears and a line cutter as well as a small, somewhat pointed tip knife. |

It's a good idea to have multiple cutting tools and you can see this in the responses you've already received. A knife, a set of shears and some kind of line cutter spread around so that you have access even if one of your hands is entangled...you know what I mean. BTW, I like the blunt tip knives..prying, use it as a screw driver...and lessen the chance of puncturing my gear.
