Signed up for Rescue!

Bit the bullet and finally signed up for Rescue. Something I have wanted to do for a long time. I will take O2 provider at the same time, already have 1st aid & CPR. Thanks all here for the inspiration! You make it sound like soo much fun.
End of sept with the dives the first weekend of Oct. Wish me well.

PS. I was doing the math and aside from nitrox that I got about 6mo ago, this will be my first training since AOW 28 years ago. See if we can teach on old dog a few new tricks.

Congrats on the decision and best of luck! Most folks rank it as one of the best, if not the best, courses they've taken. Let us know your thoughts on it when you're done.

I'm going to be taking my rescue soon as well. It was 25 years between my AOW and my Nitrox. Good luck and have fun!

I just finished up the NAUI rescue book and hopefully the class will be this week. We just have to wait for the other students to finish up with the book. I have been wanting to take this for quite a while but just could not get time in my schedule. Found a local guy that is working around our (students) schedule so it is nice. The instructor is a EMS firefighter and from what I have heard puts on a great class. Cant wait...

I did my SSI stress and rescue last summer. I was a little hesitate when I signed up, but it ended up one of my favorite classes that I have taken. It really made me a more confident diver.

I did the NAUI Rescue with ScubaToys two years ago (6 months after OW and 2 months after AOW). We had a great time and learned a lot about ourselves. This has been my best class and the most fun.

After Rescue, I then volunteered as a "victim" for the next few classes. I learned a lot more as well, because the classes made different mistakes than we did. And, of course, we victims were able to give the students a hard time.

It IS a great class. I highly recommend it for the [u]self[u] rescue skills as well.

A couple years ago I was caught in a very bad down draft while diving in open blue water in the Galapagos. I was sucked down to 80 ft in seconds. I was able to "breathe...think...act", did not panic and safely ascended. I credit my Rescue training with keeping me calm while I figured out what to do.

I took PADI Rescue, and it was enjoyable, informative, some hard work, and on the balance one of the better dive classes I've taken (although wreck certification was awfully good).

Good for you Wascubadude, I too feel the course enhanced my confidence as a diver. It also set my stage as a careful diver. It seems to me that I use these new rescue skills to try and not put myself into situations of self-destruction.
I also volunteer regularly to be the victim. Keeps me sharp. At times another diver is needed to partner so I get to rehash the skill myself. I think that is handy so I can get the muscle memory involved with the skill.
We all know repitition is key to rescue skill memory. When your nervous the mind can loose it. That is when the muscle memory comes in, it has played its part twice for me. Have fun!
