AOW Certification
So a dive buddy has taken 8 specialties certification courses. Boat, Peak Buoyancy, drift, nitrox, multi-level diver, eq. specialist, EFR, oxygen provider. Has his cert. cards in hand.
Now my question, he does not have AOW certification. What if anything should he do? Wouldn't PADI give him this automatically? |

The only two specialities that are required are the Deep and Nav dives. The other 3 specialties that you do for Advanaced can be anything. So if he does the Deep and Nav I would think (I do not know) that he could get his advanced without taking the advanced course. I have often wondered that myself about just taking 5 specialties. I opted for just taking the advanced though.

An instructor has to sign off on the AOW certification. This could be done just based on what he currently has plus the Deep and Navigation dives. however, he's likely going to have to pay for the entire course anyway unless he finds an independent instructor that will work with him.

You can petion PADI to grant a cert based on the number of dives (of that type) you have done. You just pay the PADI fee. Call the customer service number at the PADI site for your area. Here is US info- PADI Americas 30151 Tomas Street Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688-2125 USA Ph.: (800) 729-7234 (U.S. & Canada) Ph: +1 (949) 858-7234 Fax: (949) 267-1267 Email:webmaster@padi.com Give them a call they will help you work it out! |
