Are there any timed swims for the PADI rescue class? I know the D/M class has some. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Depends on agency, for you NO. In fact for most there are no swims involved. In fact I think NASE is the only agency that requires swims.

I will look into it next year. It seems to be the natural progression of things. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

If Woody is your Rescue instructor, be afraid...be very afraid...
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>But, you'll havefun. In fact, several of us from Woody's last class are returning for refresher because we want more practice with the skills. Perhaps even an opportunity to have fun with the students. We could be students one moment, then victims the next. Rescue Weekend is kinda like fraternity initiation. Ya just don't know what's going to happen...</DIV>

I hear it is the most rewarding and fun class you will ever take but it is also the most physical demanding class too. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

You'll remember your rescue class if it's done right.
<DIV>Ours involved a lot of choking on salt water as we learned to rescue breath while bringing victims in through the surf zone. We musta dragged each other through the surfa hundred times beforeourbeach training ended. It was definately the most physically demanding class I took, butit gives you a lot of confidence. </DIV>

And emotionally as well. During the weekend, you are on guard at all times. Rescues may take place on land as well as water. Anybody (even those not inyour group) may be recruited to assume a role if they are close enough and willing. Your fellow students can become victims. The goal is to challenge you and to test your limits. Ultimately, you may have to make a choice and say, "I can't do this rescue." That's what this class is about.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>You will have to deal with unscripted events during the weeked rescues. I had an underwater real spider attack and real gear failure at depth. It adds to the realism.</DIV>
