I am signed up for the class - am I supposed to complete the test before coming to class August 6th? Or is that something that I have to take during the classroom hours?

Best call ST tomorrow and ask Greg (or Nick, who I understand is point for this class).

Complete all Book tests they give ya before class
If not holds up the class...

(and make sure the guys that give ya the books, also give the home test!!!)
Had at least 6 people in a class of 14 for the Nitrox class, that did not even know they were supposed to have taken a home test thing.

It's as long as it needs to be to ensure all the divers are comfortable with the skills that are being learned and already learned.

Maybe, just a guess.
