Aeris AI dive computer log
I have an Aeris AI computer which I like. I have gone thru several versions of the downloader software over the years. The last version just seems to tick me off somewhat, it's not a big thing, but I call it a step backwards. The previous version (don't have the number with me) the software would calculate the SAC rating and place it into the database along with the rest of the data. I have recently updated the software, and now it does not! I have sent an e-mail to Aeris/Oceanic technical support and have been completely ignored. At least an acknowledgement or something. Note to Aeris....quick going backwards in your software development, the idea is to make things BETTER, not worse. I'll have to look at the version when I get home tonight and update my thread.
Hey Joe and Larry...Think you can flex some muscle in this direction????

Mike,
Let's compare version numbers. I updated to what I thought was the most recent software package about 6 weeks ago and I'm certain I still see the SAC rate. I don't have that info with me either, but I'll post it when I get home and verify if SAC rate is present. Regards, Doug

A little off subject but still related, I have another issue with my Aeris downloads. It always changes the year to 2020 when it downloads the dives. The date on my computer is correct though. Anyone had that issue with there Aeris dive computer?? I have the Atmos 2.

I have to do that with my Atom II also, and comparing the two data bases, they look identical.........but my guess is Oceanic and Aeris comes from the same factory anyways. Also when comparing the two computers, they have identical readings, even with the wireless transmitter on the Atom 2. Both computer are good IMHO.

in terms of volume rather than pressure which uses units based on a volume of air/minute. The older versions of ACI/Oceanlog reported a SAC rate in terms of PSI/min. While both are essentially the same information for a given tank configuration, there is no way to compare PSI/min SAC rates from different dives when the tanks used are not exactly the same. A SAC rate of 20 PSI/min on a typical AL-80 tank is not equal to a SAC rate of 20 PSI/min on a LP-95. So for comparison purposes, having a SAC rate in PSI/MIN is not useful because you can't compare SAC rates unless the tanks are identical. This is why using SAC rates based upon volume/minute is preferred. Volume is volume regardless of the tank size or pressures. The later versions of ACI/Oceanlog now attempt report SAC rates in terms of volume rather than pressure. (I mention "attempt" because there have been issues relating to the volume/minute SAC calculation off and on in certain releases over the past couple of years) Since gauges can only measure pressure, in order to calculate a volume/minute SAC rate you need to know how to convert from a pressure to a volume for the given tank. In order to do that calculation, you have to know at least one volume/pressure data point. i.e. at X volume the pressure is Y. The reason you have to enter a working pressure is because of the way tank sizes are measured and reported when using Imperial units. When using Imperial units (vs metric) the capacity of a tank is reported in terms of volume when full vs empty in metric. In Metric, the volume rating of a tank is when the tank is empty or at "standard" atmospheric pressure. Because all tanks are measured the same way, in metric you don't have to ask the user for what the pressure is at the rated volume. That pressure is known and is the same for all tanks. In Imperial, because the pressure of any given tank can vary when full, you need to know the "working pressure" or essentially the pressure when the tank is full or at its volume rating. So this is why it is not possible to calculate a SAC rate until the volume and working pressure is known, and why ACI/Oceanlog doesn't calculate a SAC until those values are entered. --- bill |

I have the Aeris Elite and my software calculates my SAC rate around 17 ft/min. Mathematically it is around .4 to .5. I am using 2.1.0 build 08.28.06. I have downloaded the newer versions and for some reason it will not recognize my computer. All help would be appreciated.
