LOL...Sharm is number 4? maybe if you have narcosis...LOL....I think they mean in the southern part of the Red Sea on an LOB....regarding their rating it is for Destination, if it were for diving they left out a few minor spots like Raja Ampat, Palau, Fakarava, Rangiora, Christmas Island etc.

Hahaha... well maybe you are right to a degree, number 4 seems a little optimistic to me too but it is certainly up there with the best of them... and yes I do mean the north :-)

Given the geography of the place, the reefs, the drop offs, the visibility and the sheer number and variety of the fish there it has got to be on every divers wish list at some point!

You were right though, there are a lot of divers go there every day of the year... there is a reason for that... guess why :-)

Guess why???....LOL...perhaps warm waters and the close proximity to Italy, GB, Switzerland, Germany, France and the rest of Europe...and oh lets not forget the Russians. Also a party town.

I remember the vis is great, colors of the Corals (that were not broken) were vibrant and a fishie or two here and there. If people think Sharm has world class diving they have not dove much more then the Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, T&C etc...LOL....It is not Indo-Pacific or South Pacific diving....I did think the land tours Luxor, Abu Simbel etc...to be the best on the planet.

One of my favorite pics...and all these boats head in the same direction.

Close to Italy? Sharm is in Africa... (Asia actually, the rest of Egypt is in Africa, not Europe). It is a top destination for Europeans though thats for sure, but not the only one! The Med is a damn site closer but not in the same class.

I agree that there are loads of places with plenty going for them, but how many of them are as easily accessible? (thats a rhetorical question by the way).

I am still at a loss as to why you didnt see any fish though!!! I stand by my original suggestion that you clear your mask more. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this topic.

Have you ever dived the Med? Do you have a fav (or worst) place there? I have been to a few places but Malta (Gozo) is pretty spectacular!

Sharm is in Africa?....My God I learn something everyday....LOL....But if it is so far from Europe why so many Italians then English then Swiss and so on!...and the Russians!

I saw some fish in Sharm but it was not a lot. But I am sure I saw more divers. Great vis though.

No I have not dove the Med...looked at Malta once or twice but not my style of diving. I have known a few people who have dove there and you will see more fish at a restaurant.....LOL

Favorite places, East Timor, Bali, Raja Ampat/Papua, Palau, Kona for the Manta dive, Christmas Island, Lembeh Straits, Rangiroa, Fakarava and a few other spots.

Don't believe everything you read. I've been to 5 of their top 10 but they don't have Palau or Raja listed which are both better then most of the places on their list IMHO. Galapagos is overrated.

Travelnsj... I defer to your enviable dive travels, I would love to get to half of your hit list there! So go on then, whats your numero uno top spot? My ideal dive would be a 30M floor, great vis with little or no current... diving in the UK is always cold with bum pukkering rip currents... and crap vis!

I have just finalized my trip for Oct 30, 2008. I will be on the Emperor Majesty, Southern route out of Marsa Ghalib Port. I am most excited about this trip.

I am sure you are in for a trip to remember, if you get the chance do a trip to Luxor or Abu Simbel while you are there!

I look forward to hearing about your holiday!
