Travelnsj... I defer to your enviable dive travels, I would love to get to half of your hit list there! So go on then, whats your numero uno top spot? My ideal dive would be a 30M floor, great vis with little or no current... diving in the UK is always cold with bum pukkering rip currents... and crap vis!
What you have not done the Scarpa Flow?....I have heard that is great diving.

Favorite place Raja Ampat followed by Palau and then great places like Bali, Timor etc...and then you have Lembeh Straits that is different and in a class by itself.

Poacher,

I am finalizing my SI plans. Based on your advice (and that of others), I am now considering a trip to Luxor. I have 4 days to spend on the post-liveaboard portion of my trip. Had planned to do the museums in Cairo on Fri, Sat & Mon, along with a trip to Giza.

Are the museums vs Luxor a better choice?

Thanks,

Vanessar

Everyone's different

Been diving many times in egypt - Sharm holds no Charm for me.

I much prefer Dahab - a funky little backpacker town with cheap lodging and good shore diving. A few excellent dives (Bells Blue Hole and Canyon) and the rest pretty good. You can do a 3 tank dive day just south of town too.

The Deep south is best. In fact Sudan is really best but a bit of a PITA.

Sharm's got some good diving (Thistlegorm, Straits of Tiran) but pay attention on your dive brief when they tell you the color of your anchor line cause normally they'll be a sh*tload of boats with ya.

My advice is free - you get what you pay for

Enjoy

I dont think you can go wrong really, Dahab is great too (I agree) if a little quiet. Tripwise, I personally prefer Luxor because I wanted to see Karnak, the Valley of the Kings comes a close second but believe me... you will be spoiled for choice!
At the risk of sounding a little dull here it would be good for you to do a little background reading on ancient Egypt before you go as it will make a bit more sense to you when you are out there... especially the whole 'whose god is best' saga LOL... (that one seems to rage on and on even now LOL).
Enjoy your trip... I know you will.

My wife and I dove in Sharm in May this year. We dove Ras Mohammad, Tiran, Gubal and the Thistelgorm!

And no point did we feel crowded or in a tourist aquarium. Water was perfect and a fantastic dive vacation!

Tiran area in the red sea is some kind of a must see this time of year, hammerheads schools are visiting in the area.
If you're in Sharm around mid august, drop me a PM, some friends of mine and I are taking a liveaboard so you if you'd like you can join
I vote for Tiran too, have dived a couple of reefs around it and its really good.

Or the Ras Mohamed National Park is really good, in and out of the water, you can get day trips there from most dive shops in Sharm or get the bus / taxi there and dive with your buddie and a guide if you want things more personal.Ras Mohamed National Park

Dahab

Just got back from a week at Dahab, Used Dive Urge as a base. They were great. The diving is all shore based. Lots of dive sightss to choose from for all levels. We saw lots of fish and great coral reefs. Wasn't crowed at most sights in fact at several there were five divers in the water.
Food was pricey and service at resturants were slow but good.
If going check the operators out as some have long walks to the entry points. and have 10-12 people at a time. ours was limited to 4.
We're planning on going back.
