This would be me as well. Of course, my encounter with a Great White Shark would be purely accidental!!

The cage diving with the White Sharks is done near a town called Gansbaai, it is a few hours drive from Cape Town.

Sodwana does not have cage diving, every year the ragged tooth sharks (sand tigers I think you call them here) arrive there to breed and give birth, you dive freely with them.

A great shark spot is Protea Banks near Durban, this is where you get to see the big boys. I have seen Tigers, Zambezis (Bull), Raggies, Hammerheads and on a few occasions a Great White. All the diving there is also without any cages.

Sorry to hear the vis was bad for you at Sodwana, its the most popular dive site in SA and is normally pretty awesome, I have had some incredible dives there.

Shark nets are at the moment only along the KwaZulu Natal coast (Durban area). There are no nets in the Cape.

I supposedly missed one by a matter of seconds a few years ago. A group of us were diving the Spar off the NC coast and the first few to get in the water swear up and down they saw a Great White cruising by... I guess it is possible.

No way man you never missed it, they saw a Great White then that means you were diving with it, embellish the story a little and tell everyone you know

I don't think I could shark dive. I have the movie Jaws to blame!

Tell them you looked it in the eye and when it saw you had no fear it swam away and you are the ocean alpha.... try not to start laughing while saying this.

Hell no. Great whites are predators. Let them be. Do people go out and sit in a tree and try to bait grizzly bears in closer so they can take a picture? These are wild animals, and I understand some people want the experience, but my view is to let them be and if you see one on a dive, sweet, but don't make them get used to getting food from people.
