You forgot an option I use mine for signaling my buddies as well

Yes - have one in my pocket.

I have found that you get a whole array of amazing colours when flashing a light at a coral head - even in daylight. You tend to miss those if you don't have one!

Also - you never know when cool / interesting dive throughs may be available - and having a light helps to figure out what's ahead, etc., etc.

Finally - once you are on the surface - it could be used as a beacon device to attract attention if necessary.

Yes. Clip it to a D ring and forget about it. If I need it it's there, if not, no harm done.

You betcha! With the viz and light penetration here in the NE its like the difference between color and BW TV.

Yes. I drop a small one in a pocket or clip it to the BCD. It's like having a pocket knife in the woods, small and easy to forget it's there - but handy when you need it.

I have one strapped to my speargun. It's good for looking in dark areas around rocks.

I carry the light because many of the places I go in the day are DARK anyway...

You need to add another category to your poll. Yes, because I dive fresh muck water lakes and its like doing night dives all the time.

I second that one, I can dive mid day and below a certain depth it's pitch black without a light. Murk doesn't help the light. Dive without one and you'll find you can't see where you're going. Spooky too.

I dive with my canister light on every dive, unless there is something preventing me from doing so. Helps spot the critters for photographing, among many, many other good reasons.

OH yeah, I carry a light on every dive. It does come in handy for looking under ledges and in holes.

always.
Looking under ledges is nice, but more important to me is it's use as a surface signalling device should I end up drifting after sun down or other low light condition.

I always have two lights strapped to my harness. I dont bother to take them off in the day time

Always have a torch with me, and use it a lot for looking into nooks and crannies in the reef for critters. :)

Same here. With the standard Texas lake viz, many day dives end up being night dives.

Yes, for looking in dark places, but also for signalling buddies, which for many divers is a primary reason for the expense of a $1000+ canister light.
