Like "youtube" I think lots of vids get lost by the shear volume. This vid is the most mind blowing that I have seen.

Woah! He must have been very hungry! If an octopus can do that to a shark, I guess us divers are fair game too...

How on earth did they film this? Its like they knew what was going to happen.

That is why I carry a manly knife like the Seahawk. No broken steak knives or scissors for me.

When I climb up the boat ladder draped with severed tentacles I want to be able to say "There I was at 20 fathoms when I see an old shipwreck....

I would like to have one of those knives. Usually the Mark V crowd used the Morse or Desco hardhat knives with the nice brass sheath. They go pretty high. Lot of reproduction ones on eBay but I would like to score a nice vintage on at a price I won't have to take out a second mortgage on my house.

They said that it happened in their aquarium. A couple of their sharks died and they didn't know why so they set up some cameras to find out what was going on.

That was a great video. I thought it was odd that they were able to film it; makes sense that it was in an aquarium. I cannot show my wife the video because she would not want to go diving again.

Wow... and those things are all over the place here in the PNW. Can't wait to see one myself. Hopefully from a less intimate perspective than that shark.

Have to agree...cool video and would have lost the farm on that bet. Would have picked the shark to win that fight!

That is without a doubt one of the coolest things I have ever seen! Imagine what a giant can do.

The aspect that sticks out in my mind is the intelligence behind the attack. The Octopus stalks it's prey, hides in camoflage, then attacks. But it's not a random attack. The octo grabs the shark from behind, and then moves up and seals the mouth until it's dead.

He had no problem with the 3-4 footer. I imagine that octopus wouldn't hesitate taking 6 footers either. amazing!! I would have bet that the shark would have had a belly full of tenticles.

Great video.

My wife and I were visiting the Monterey Aquarium and got a behind the scenes tour. They told us that they had a tank of tropical fish or clams (can't remember) that was not on display yet. They started noticing that the fish were disappearing from the tank. They thought an employee was stealing the fish, so they video taped the area at night. What they discovered was that an octopus was crawling out of its tank, walking across the floor, hopping into the other tank and feeding on the fish/clams. It then made good its escape, back to its original tank.

Pretty remarkable creatures for something without a spine.

That is absolutely insane! And to think I am amazed at those America's Funniest Videos of the kids finding creative ways to break out of their cribs...

I've seen some impressive video of octopi-they are indeed cunning. A giant cotopi can escape through a 1/2" hole. Had a friend that had one that he literally had to fight with everytime he fed it. Literally "Back, back, down, down....HERE!!!!"
