Congrates. That is really cool. There is a reason I drive all the way from Arlington to get any scuba stuff I need, and fills.

Actually I won't need one, but thanks anyway. I had already manufactured a duplicate of your signature stamp. It was hard to get the crooked "X" just right.:smiley36:

Anyway, the civilized light-hearted nature of the forum is a true reflection of the operation and, of course, the operators. Again, well done!:smiley32:

congrats! It was and is a great idea, but it would not have been a sucess if you weren't willing to put in the time. I bet the 1-5 hours a day is on top of the 12+ a day it takes to run a sucessfull business. Ideas are great, but without the willingness to work hard to implement them ST would still look like any other LDS.

*sniff* I think the admin and mods should've been mentioned. "Mr. MWhities is logged in all the time.... just not always "here".". ;)

Congratz Larry. I'll take .05% of all the sales from the time that article was released. :)

Awesome article! I am sure it will bring more national attention to both the business and the site. For a someone that only found this forum it already has been a great resource. This article will hopefully bring the forum to many more!

Great article, although it didn't tell me anything new. It's very obvious from the way you conduct business and from this forum that you operate a customer oriented buisness, and that selling scuba gear is second to promoting your love of diving. Keep up the great work. Having been the first time I've seen a picture of you, I'm happy to see you have a bit of a tan. Your forum pic makes you look a bit pale, and I was concerned you weren't getting out of the shop enough!

Excellent "exposure" in the mainstream press.

Notice how Scubatoys' philosophy for success is out in the open, but no one else is doing what Scubatoys is?

I guess that it's easier to bitch and moan than it is to do it right.

Thanks guys.

"The average person cashing in the $10 gift certificate spends about $150 on ScubaToys goods. Customers who earn the $50 certificate buy on average $650 in merchandise."

thats so true. the "free" money brings em in, the great service keeps us all around to spend hundreds upon hundreds with the people we trust, and people we like doing business with.

Larry and Joe and their great staff have established a true 21st century dive store and they keep improving it.

Scubatoys.com has exceptional customer service, lots of the latest inventory, and all the rest.

Every fellow manufacturer I know enjoys working with the fine folks in Texas. Congratulations on making the Wall Street Journal.

Quite honestly, I don't know of any other online Scuba retailer (or other retailer) that has this kind of interaction with it's customers. Not just providing the website but responding to customer inquiries and letting us know what is going on at ST. It clearly builds customer loyalty because we feel like we know the ST staff like we would know out LDS staff.

I am curious, Larry...

How much has the web traffic increased since the article ran??

You guys, once again, prove why you are at the top of the dive shop game!!!

Nice!

He can be uppity if he wants to be, as long as the prices and service stay the same. :smiley20:

Thanks TJDiver for reviving this thread. It is pretty cool to see that a year and a half after that article was published and nothing has changed. Keep up the great work Larry.

Once I recover from buying a house, I'll have to cash in those gift certificates (before my wife decides to reno the place).

Thanks Larry. I'm going pro and my local dive shop has been running at a loss for 5 years now. I hope to glean a little from your success and apply it to my local dive shop. Mind you, the shop owner is dead set against shopping online. So I'm more hoping to get more people in the store with good customer service.

I'll have to figure out things like how to provide customers with what they want. It is hard to stock everything and if we order one of something it is hard to compete with someone like yourself or the other successful online stores.

Its really strange how treating your customers fair and using all the technololgy available to be successful seems like rocket science. I have been surfing the boards and shopping at ST for about 4 months and I have asked myself why is it a shop in Texas manages to master these simple concepts tought in any business 101 class and no one else can.

Congradulations are defiantly in order and I forgot all about my $10 gift card looks like my new wetsuit will be $10 cheaper
