View Full Version : What's After Grouper?

As I approach Grouper-ness, I begin to wonder: what's next? What's after? I noted that Cummings has crossed the 500-post mark with no change to his status/rank.

Now, I'm certain that Larry has HIS ideas for rankings; perhaps, we should suggest OURS. I recommend the following rankings:

-Tadpole
-Guppy
-Grouper
-Shark
-Has No Life

Your thoughts?

I'm kinda curious too.... I see only one person has made it past 500 so far.

I like it. However, it can only be 5 levels. Or, does vBulletin permit beyond 5?

Can't speak to that -- not knowledgeable of vBulletin

Although I like it, I note that those are all MALE titles of nobility. Somehow, I think Moxie, DisneyMom, etc. might take exception. I dunno about you, but I wouldn' want to cross those ladies and dive with them. Remember...they dive, they own dive knives, they know which hose is the reg hose and which is just the inflator.

Ya might want to come up with some gender-neutral names titles.

Hard to have gender neutral nobility titles, but your point is valid none-the-less.

So it would need to be:

King / Queen
Price / Princess
Duke / Duchess
Marquis / Marquise
Earl / Lady??
Viscount / Viscountess
Baron / Baronet
Knight / Lady?

But now Larry will need to either capture Gender in the user profile or allow users to "self-select" their earned title. Much easier to have it system generated once you reach the number of posts -- but I wasn't thinking my idea would gain any momentum. :)

I like the ocean theme of the names ... more relevant given the nature of the forum!

I think someone else mentioned these but shark and whale would have to be up there. Oooh perhaps below them but above grouper - turtle. I :smiley28: turtles. And another level could be stingray. So ... grouper ... stingray ... turtle ... shark ... whale.

Then if you get way too many posts you could differentiate with the different species of whales!

Okay, if I take my biasness out of it, turtles probably doesn't go in the same group as the others. That's more tropical rather than general.

I agree with the aquatic theme. After Grouper I think they should be:

Barracuda
Great White Shark
Nemo

well... things like "Great White shark" Bull Shark... stuff like that should be left out... too aggressive... do you want to see them when you go diving?

sharks like "nurse shark" and other more docile ones should be used... as well as sword fish... whales (from small to LARGE) and the largest one... Whale Shark... for some ridiculous amount of posts...

I for 1 would like to see them while diving. I draw the line at going for a ride, but seeing sharks of any kind is a thrill.

I would agree... see a lot of Bull sharks in the Destin area.. aways a treat. They can be agressive, but mostly just seem to be looking around.

I don't want to be a grouper. I saw a few of those big honkers this weekend--ugly. I want turtle, or triggerfish, or seahorse.

When I was in Puerto Galera last week one of the divemasters was attacked by a Titan Triggerfish. I've had them come after me before but he got it bad. He wasn't looking and it swam into his face at ??? mph and took a nice chunk out of his forehead and gave him a black eye thru his mask. I wasn't on the dive but saw him at the lunch counter afterwards. It was ugly very ugly. Saw him later that night at the Point Bar and he had stitches in his forehead and was taking antibotics as well. I guess the bite can get infected.
