This was also a personal video I shot at Mermet Springs in October of 2007, I tried to get video of the paddle fish at Mermet but was unsuccessful...last year!

Hope to see you up there later this year. The spoonbills stay pretty deep, yet to see one myself

They are fairly common at least in the midwest. Those at Mermet are basically pets. They love hot dogs. You definately don't want to wiggle fingers around them.

I've got a couple pictures of the spoonbill and cat's in my album below. My dive buddy has an awesome video with spoonbill at Haigh Quarry a couple weeks ago. Check out his video called Haigh Quarry. About 5 minutes in there is some awesome shots of spoonbill.

Yes, they are huge, and definitely spoiled. I have been to Mermet twice, and have seen the spoonbills on just about every dive there. If you are standing on the dock, looking out at the water, swim over to the wall on the right, they seem to like to hang out at about 30 feet or so over in that area. We have had them swim right up next to us several times. They are especially bizarre-looking when they have their mouths open to feed... glad they are filter-feeders!

Lol when I was little I would fish for catfish with hot dogs in my canal. The bigger the chunk of hot dog, the bigger the fish I would catch.:smiley30:
